There are five communities in Grosse Pointe, each with individual governing officials. The "Pointes" include The City Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Shores, and Grosse Pointe Park. Grosse Pointe encompasses nearly 11 square miles and has a population of about 50,000.
Grosse Pointe has many unique features that separate it from other communities. One of those features is the breath taking views of Lake St. Clair. This is an international waterway that covers approximatly 400 square miles. This body of water also supplies scenic views of Canada.
Another unique feature are the lakefront parks. Each of the Grosse Pointe neighborhoods provides a park with outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, marinas, picnic areas and recreation areas. The parks are there to relax for the residents and their guests.
Private clubs are another feature. You will find activities such as golf, equestrian, yachting and sailing, year round tennis and swimming.
Further north on Lakeshore is the Edsel Ford Estate. This house was designed by Albert Kahn and is available for tours, meetings and fund-raising.
Quality schools are taken very seriously in Grosse Pointe. The Grosse Pointe school district places within the top two percent in state testing for reading, math, science and writing. About 90 percent of Grosse Pointe high school graduates go on to college.
